Ashbourne is located in England's Midlands in the county of Derbyshire. It resides at the south end of the Pennine mountains and advertises itself as 'The Gateway to Dovedale'. Ashbourne had previously been the meeting point of six main coaching routes, including the London to Manchester route. This made it a local commercial centre, and is now still regarded as one by the local villages. The local history of Ashbourne includes an occurrence where Oliver Cromwell fired his artillery at St Oswald's Church, and Bonnie Prince Charlie's proclamation of his Father as King as he marched through to London.
