Carrickfergus is a town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and is administrative centre for Carrickfergus Borough Council. The town lies on the north shore of Lough Neagh. The town is home to the Norman-era Carrickfergus castle, dating from 1177, and is one of the best preserved castles in Ireland.
