Loughborough is also the site of the world's largest bell foundry. Loughborough is also famous for being the worlds first package holiday destination, organised by Thomas Cook for a temperance group from nearby Leicester. The University in Loughborough is situated on its own grounds on the outskirts of the town. It has a population of approximately 13,000 students; thus a number of services in the town exist to serve the university and its students, with several supermarkets and plenty of nightlife in the town. The town has a pedestrianised shopping centre with a twice-weekly open air market, and a number of big name shops and stores. There is also a large indoor shoping centre on the site of Loughborough's old bus station. Loughborough also has rail links to London, Sheffield and Nottingham via the Midland Main Line. The town was formerly part of the Great Central Railway, however this was closed during the 1960s.
