The town is served by rail, wth journey times of approximately 90 minutes to Fort William, and 5 hours to Glasgow. Mallaig is the terminus of the line, known as the West Highland Line. The town can also be reached via the A580 "Road to the Isles", which connects the town to Fort William. The A580 routes to Malaig ferry terminal, hence its "Road to the Isles" name.
