Derby is a city of central England west of Nottingham. Once a Roman town, Derby became an administrative centre and with the Industrial Revolution became an important industrial town as well as a railway town. Derby is a trade and manufacturing centre with a pottery industry dating from the 18th century. Buildings of note in Derby include the County or Shire Hall, the Guildhall, the Central Library and Museum and Jacobean House.
