Halifax is a town of 82,506 inhabitants, situated in the county of West Yorkshire, in the Calderdale district. The name Halifax is said to be a corruption of the Old English words for 'holy' and 'face', as it is local legend that the head of John the Baptist is buried in the town. The town's coat of arms still bears an image of the saint, and the towns Parish Church has always been dedicated to the saint.
