Ashford is both a town and a district borough in the county of Kent. The borough of Ashford was formed in the 70's by the merging of Ashford and Tenterden Urban Districts with the Rural Districts of East Ashford, West Ashford and Tenterden. Ashford borough now includes 18 wards. Ashford town's origins are thought to lie in the ninth century when the country was invaded by the Danes in 893.
