Ilford is a town in North-East London, UK in the London Borough of Redbridge. As Ilford was a part of Essex until 1965, there is some debate locally as to whether it is "really" a part of Essex - it remains in Essex for Postal purposes - or a part of Greater London - where it is for local government. The area is predominantly residential, mostly of commuters into London, although it is locally reckoned a large proportion of London's taxi drivers live in the area. Areas surrounding Ilford include Goodmayes, Wanstead and Becontree.
