For centuries, the river had been the border between Worcestershire and Staffordshire, however the border moved in 1966, placing Stourbridge in Stafordshire, and later in the West Midlands. The town is served by two stations, Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction. Stourbridge town sees a shuttle service to Stourbridge Junction, from where connections to Worcester, Kidderminster, Dorridge, Great Malvern, Stratford-upon-Avon and Shirley can be made. The journey time between Stourbridge's two stations is just 3 minutes. Stourbridge is known for its glass production, which has been manufactured in the area for centuries due to its rich local resources of coal and fireclay for the glass making furnaces.
