About Mold - show infohide info
Mold is county town of Flintshire in Wales, with a population of 9,500 inhabitants. Mold grew around a (now ruined) castle, which was site of regular battles between the Welsh and the English. Attractions in Mold include the ruined castle, a 13th century Parish Church, a museum and a regional arts centre, the "Clwyd Theatr Cymru". Mold was once connected to the British Rail network, and had a station, goods yard and locomotive works, however with the Beeching cuts in the 1960's, plus the opening of a rival works in Wrexham, the railway closed. The site of the former station is now a Tesco's store, leaving bus as the only public transport out of the town. Local towns include Denbigh, Buckley, Wrexham, Harwarden, Connah's Quay, Shotton, Chester and Flint.
