Aviemore resides in the Scottish Highlands, and is a popular tourist area. Located in Badenoch and Strathspey, its county location is traditionally Morayshire, but for post it is Inverness-shire. The history of Aviemore comes to light really around the 1800s with the arrival of the railway. It became an important junction to Perth, Forres and Inverness. With hotels beginning to appear, it began to be known as a mountain resort. Aviemore is now a popular skiing and winter sport resort, and has many hill walkers flocking to the Cairngorm Mountains situated within the Cairngorms National Park. Aviemore also has the UK's only free-grazing reindeer herd. The Cairngorms, Aviemore and the Scottish Highlands are at the heart of Scotland, and are one of the most stunning wild areas in Europe. Due it is tourism however, Aviemore also has a contemporary feel which makes it an attractive place to work and play.
