About Cardiff - show infohide info
Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales, in the south-east part of the country on the Bristol Channel. Cardiff was a prosperous coal-shipping port in the 19th and early 20th centuries and is now an educational and industrial centre. South Wales is strewn with castles and Cardiff is most notable for the elaborate Cardiff Castle located in the city centre, and for the fairytale Castell Coch (Red Castle) on the northern edge of Cardiff. Surrounding areas include Newport / Cwmbran, Bridgend, Pontypridd, Caerphilly, Pontypool and Merthyre Tydfil.
