Farnham is a small town (pop. 38,000) in Surrey, England. It is of historic interest, with many old buildings, including a number of Georgian houses. Farnham Castle overlooks the town. Although now a conference centre, the medieval keep is in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public. The town has a Roman heritage, and was granted its town charter in 1249. Farnham became a succesful market town, and when the railways came to Farnham the town also became a popular commuter town, which has caused the poulation to rise from 14,000 in 1901 to its current 38,000. Nearby towns include Basingstoke, Aldershot, Fleet, Guildford, Godalming and Woking
