About Sevenoaks - show infohide info
Sevenoaks is a town in the county of Kent, in the south-east of England, 25 miles from London. Sevenoaks was not mentioned in the Domesday book, though neighbouring village Otford was. The town was later granted a market charter in the 13th century. In the middle ages, two hosptals were built by monks for the infirm, elderly and thosre attending pilgrimmages. Today, Sevenoaks is largely dormitory town for London, and is well connected to the city, via the M25, and by rail to 3 London stations - Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Blackfriars. In the other direction, services reach Hastings and Ashford International, though a number of trains terminate at Sevenoaks. The town has a second station, named for the local inn - Bat and Ball station. Nearby towns to Sevenoaks include Royal Tunbridge, West Malling, Oxted, Westerham, Tonbridge, Caterham and Biggin Hill.
