Leek is a town of around 20,000 inhabitants, situated on the River Churnet in Staffordshire. The town was granted its Royal Charter in 1214. the town still has a traditional cattle market, reflecting its role of a centre of farming in the region. During the Industrial Revolution, Leek became a major producer of textiles. While the industry has declined, the town still retains a number of its clothing factories. Towns in the vicinity include Stoke on Trent, Newcastle Under Lyme, Crewe, Derby, Macclesfield and Derby. The town is linked to the M6 via the A520.
