Market Harborough is a market town in Leicestershire, England, upon the River Welland. It has a population of 20,785 (2001 census). The town is on the border of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, and is just 12 miles from Leicester. The town was founded in the 12th century as a market town, to boost the economy of the local area. It was once involved in the clothing industry, with corsets being made in the town centre; the facotry is now used as a library. One of the towns unique features is the towns grammar school, which is situated in a building dating from 1614; the building itself is on stilts, under which was formerly a butter market. Market Harborough is on the Midland Main Line, and has rail links to London and Nottingham as well as Leicester. The town is also conveniently located for the M1. Towns nearby include Wigston, Corby, Lutterworth, Narborough and Leicester.
