Maidenhead is a town in Berkshire, England. The town has a population of approximately 60,000 inhabitants. Maidenhead is a part of the borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and lies on the banks of the River Thames. The town developed as Maidenhead was originally a crossing point for the River Thames, and later, the Great Western Road was diverted through the town when a bridge over the Thames was built. The Great Western Railway passes through Maidenhead, and has been instrumental in the development of the town. A number of London commuters live in Maidenhead, which has developed to serve these needs, with shops and entertainment. Communters also travel to the M4 high tech areas such as Slough and Reading, where a number of high-tech companies have set up to take advantage location close to the capital and Heathrow International Airport Nearby towns include Taplow, Slough, Reading, Hounslow, Uxbridge, Windsor and Feltham.
