Stourbridge is a town in the county of the West Midlands. the town has a population of approximately 55,000 inhabitants. though in the West Midlands officially, the towns postcode and cricket team are considered to be in Worcestershire, as these didn't change when the counties were re-aligned in 1974. A small number in the town still consider themselved to be in Worcestershire. Stourbridge takes its name from the River Stour, which flows through the centre of the town. For centuries, the river had been the border between Worcestershire and Staffordshire, however the border moved in 1966, placing Stourbridge in Stafordshire, and later in the West Midlands. The town is served by two stations, Stourbridge Town and Stourbridge Junction. Stourbridge town sees a shuttle service to Stourbridge Junction, from where connections to Worcester, Kidderminster, Dorridge, Great Malvern, Stratford-upon-Avon and Shirley can be made. The journey time between Stourbridge's two stations is just 3 minutes. Stourbridge is known for its glass production, which has been manufactured in the area for centuries due to its rich local resources of coal and fireclay for the glass making furnaces.
