Llandudno is a seaside resort on the north coast of Wales, with a residential population of juts over 20,000 inhabitants. The town developed mainly during the Victorian era as a seaside retreat for the rich and famous. Llandudno retains much of its victorian charm, with the majority of buildings on the seafront dating from that era. The Llandudno pier was built in 1878, is 1,234ft in length and is a Grade II listed building. In 1884 the pier was extended in a landwards, extending its length to 2,295ft. The pier was ravaged by fire in 1994, but has since been restored to its former glory. Other attractions in Llandudno, The Great Orme, The Happy Valley (a former quarry turned back into landscaped gardens, miniature golf courses and open air theatre), Marine Drive and the West Shore. The North Wales theatre, and North Wales Conference centre are also in the town. Llandudno still attracts tourists every summer, and is seen as a generally high class resort. Llandudno is served by rail, with two stations. Llandudno, and Llandudno Junction. Llandudno is served by hourly trains to Manchester Piccadilly via Chester. Llandudno Junction sees these trains, in addition to services between Cardiff, Crewe, London Euston and Holyhead. Trains to Blaenau Ffestiniog start here. Nearby towns include Holyhead, Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan and Conwy.
