Kirkintilloch is a town in the county of East Dumbartonshire, about 8 miles north east of Glasgow. The town has a population of 26,531 people. The town is the administrative centre for the county of East Dumbartonshire. Historically, Kirkintilloch owes its wealth to the Forth and Clyde Canal, which enabled it to act as an inland port, serving both east and west coasts of Scotland; even now Kirkintilloch boasts it is the 'canal capital' of Scotland. Nearby towns include the City of Glasgow, Falkirk, Cumbernauld, Motherwell, Hamilton, Paisley, Dumbarton and Stirling.
