Lichfield is a town of 27,900 inhabitants in the county of Staffordshire. Lichfield is famous for its three-spired cathedral, upin which building commenced in 1195, to be completed in the 1330s. The town of Lichfield dates back to 669, when the town was mentioned in Bede's History. During the 18th Century, Lichfield became a centre of intellectual activity, with a number of famous people living in the town, including Samuel Johnson an David Garrick. The town has a number of light industries on its eastern outskirts, notably Armitage Shanks ceramic bathroom products, and Arthur Price master cutlers and silversmiths. The town also acts as a commuter town for Birmingham. It has two stations, Lichfield City (for Bimingham and Redditch) and Lichfield Trent Valley (for London, Manchester and other stations on the West Coast Main Line).
