About Jedburgh - show infohide info
Jedburgh is a town of approaximately 4000 inhabitants. It is situated in the Scottish Borders, and is only 10 miles from the border with England. Historically, it was frequently involved with skirmishes between Scotland and England, due to its proximity with the border. Jedburgh has plenty of history, having seen many royal visits over the year, Notably from Mary Queen of Scots, who visited in 1566. The house in which she stayted is now a museum. There is a ruined Abbey in Jedburgh, which was subject of a major archaeological dig in 1986. It is now open to the public, as is Jedburgh castle jail. Nearby towns include Hawick, Selkirk, Kelso and Galashiels.
