About Milford Haven - show infohide info
Milford Haven is a small town in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Originally it was a whaling port, founded in the 18th century, and grew into a major port. The town has a large, natual deep water harbour, formed by the Pembroke River and the Daugleddau Estuary. It is one of the deepest shipping channels in the world, and so is heavily utilised. Passenger ferries to Ireland, pleasure craft and oil tankers are frequent visitors. Milford Haven has traditionally been associated with oil refining, and thus has a large oil transfer terminal to allow sea to ground (rail and truck) transfer of oil. Two LRP terminals are being built currently, ensuring Milford Haven's importance in the import and export of liquid fuels. The town is served by rail, with connections to Swansea and Cardiff. Nearby towns include Pembroke, Haverfordwest, Neyland, Tesby and Saundersfoot.
