About Truro - show infohide info
The bustling cathedral city of Truro is the centre for administration, commerce and tourism for the county of Cornwall. Truro, called after Tri-veru meaning three rivers which includes the Rivers Kenwyn and Allen, has developed close to the Truro river and with good road and rail links is within easy reach of almost every part of Cornwall. Truro grew as a tin mining town, and is well known for Truro Cathedral. Truro Cathedral was built in the 19th century on the site of a 16th century parish church to a design by noted church architect John Loughborough Pearson, heavily influenced by Gothic ideas. It features three massive towers and spires. The central tower and spire is 250 feet tall, the western ones reach 200ft. The city is also the location of the Royal Cornwall Museum.
