About Ipswich - show infohide info
Ipswich is a borough of eastern England near the North Sea northeast of London on the estuary of the River Orwell. Ipswich was a commercial and pottery-making centre from the 7th to the 12th century and was later important in the woollen trade. Ipswich was successively a Stone age, Iron age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement known as "Gippeswic". Ipswich is still a flourishing port today, handling several million tons of cargo each year. Surrounding areas include Colchester, Aldeburgh, Sudbury and Clacton on Sea.
