About Harrow - show infohide info
Harrow (or Harrow-on-the-Hill) is the principal town of the London borough of Harrow, situated to the north west of Charing Cross. The town is widely known for being home of Harrow School, which has educated a number of great leaders, including Winston Churchill and Jawaharlal Nehru (first Prime Minister of India). There are two shopping centres, St Ann's and St Georges. St Ann's is the largest and oldest, containing a number of shops and a food court. The second shopping centre, St George's is smaller, but contains a 9-screen cinema. Additionally there are a number of high-street stores based in the town, such as Debenhams. Harrow is well served by public transport, with bus routes to surrounding towns, central London and Heathrow Airport. Harrow also has six stations, 3 of which are exclusively on the London Underground network (West Harrow and North Harrow on the Metropolitan Line; South Harrow on the Picadilly). Harrow and Wealdstone lies on the Silverlink network, with trains between London Euston and Watford Junction, and between Watford Junction and Brighton. Harrow and Wealdstone is also a terminus on the Bakerloo Underground line. Harrow on the Hill is served by Chiltern Railways between London Marylebone and Aylesbury, and is also on the Metropolitan underground line. Finally, Northolt Park is served solely by Chiltern Railways between London Marylebone and Birmingham. Nearby towns to Harrow include Watford, Uxbridge, Wembley, Borehamwood, Slough, Ealing, Amersham, Rickmansworth and Barnet.
