Darlington is an attractive market town situated in the Tees Valley on the border between County Durham and North Yorkshire. Darlington is well known as the birthplace of the railways when the first public railway ran through the town in 1825. Darlington began as an Anglo-Saxon settlement on the River Skerne which is a northern tributary of the Tees.
