About Mallaig - show infohide info

Mallaig is a small town on the West Coast on the Scottish Highlands. The population is approximately 1000 people. It is a port, and ferries serve a number of remote villages and islands, with services operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. The ferries operate to Armadale on Skye, Inverie in Knoydart, and to the isles of Rùm, Eigg, Muck, and Canna. Mallaig is also a fishing port, and has an aquarium and heritage centre in the town. The town is served by rail, wth journey times of approximately 90 minutes to Fort William, and 5 hours to Glasgow. Mallaig is the terminus of the line, known as the West Highland Line. The town can also be reached via the A580 "Road to the Isles", which connects the town to Fort William. The A580 routes to Malaig ferry terminal, hence its "Road to the Isles" name. There are a number of villages and hamlets close to Mallaig, including Morar, Portpaluchain, Beoraidbeg, Glasnacardoch, Mallaigvaig, Mallaigmore, Bracora, Bracorina and Tarbet.
