Paisley is a large town, and former royal burgh in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. Paisely is the administrative capital of the Renfrewshire authority. Historically, Paisley has monastic origins, due to a site near a waterfall, where it is said a chapel was established by the Irish monk, Saint Miren. Paisley has been a textile center since the early 18th century and became famous in the 19th century for its colourful patterned shawls.
