Keswick is a market town in Cumbria, situated north of Derwent Water. The town was first recorded as Cese-wick, indicating it acted as a cheese market. Mining later took place here on a small scale, and Keswick became the source of the worlds first graphite pencils. The industry remains today, and a pencil museum remains as a tourist attraction in the town. Other attractions include a 'Cars of the Stars' motor museum, and the picturesque Lake District National Park. The town has a population of 5000, and one of its primary sources of income is through the tourist industry, providing accommodation and amenities in the town. The town lies on the A69 between Penrith and Workington. The A66 also links Keswick to the M6. Towns nearby include Penrith, Ambleside, Cockermouth, Workington and Whitehaven.
