Leek is a town of around 20,000 inhabitants, situated on the River Churnet in Staffordshire. The town was granted its Royal Charter in 1214. the town still has a traditional cattle market, reflecting its role of a centre of farming in the region. During the Industrial Revolution, Leek became a major producer of textiles. While the industry has declined, the town still retains a number of its clothing factories.
